Grzybowo TOURISM Beaches In Poland

Grzybowo on the Baltic Coast

Looking for a stay of the beaten path near the coast.... Then look no further than Grzybowo. This is a sleepy little town only a few hundred meters from the sandy beaches of Grzybowo Poland.

Grzybowo

Heres what sites around the web have to say about this town.

"Peaceful and veiled from daily life, the small resort of Grzybowo lies on the Baltic Sea coast, near the centre of Kolobrzeg. Every year, holidaymakers flock here in large numbers to enjoy life on the long and sandy beach. Grzybowo’s scenic precincts ensure one has excellent conditions for bicycle rides and walks. Emitting the sweet scent of pines, the surrounding forests invite everyone to gather the various kinds of mushrooms and berries that can be found here."

Grzybowo TOURISM

Considered as having one of the most attractive beaches on this part of the coast, this 40m-wide extravaganza in Grzybowo is covered by soft, white granules of sand with no hint of stones. The water is very clean and the irregular shoreline accounts for it being much warmer than in nearby Kolobrzeg. The depth of water increases gradually away from the shore to a maximum of 3 m. This part of the Baltic Sea is known as the Grzybowo Bay, and at 7 km in length the bay cuts into the land to a depth of 800 m.

If tired of sunbathing and swimming, then there are lots of opportunities for active leisure pursuits in a clean and natural environment. You can enjoy a horseback ride or head to the picturesque Resko Lake to try out your skills with a kayak, water bicycle or a sailing boat. Grzybowo is also the start of the longest seashore biking trail in Poland.

Grzybowo, just like the whole area, is blessed with a unique microclimate, characterised by a high iodine content in the air and hence favourable for anyone suffering from blood circulation, breathing or other metabolism ailments. The region is abundant in sources of brine and therapeutic mud.

Sopot Beaches In Poland

Sopot is a seaside spa in Poland. Sopot, together with nearby Gdańsk and Gdynia are often referred as Triple-city in Polish that's Trójmiasto.

And Prepare yourself for a shock if arriving in Sopot after a tour of the Pomerania’s rural parts - this is 21st-century Poland, writ large. As the favoured playground of citizens of neighbouring Gdynia and Gdańsk, along with plentiful international visitors, Sopot is sophisticated and cosmopolitan, and isn’t afraid to show it. Unlike its rival seaside towns to the west, Sopot offers both beachfront attractions and cutting-edge urban style, being well populated with stylish bars, clubs and restaurants.

Sopot’s incarnation as a fashionable resort arose in 1823 when Jean Georges Haffner, a former doctor in Napoleon’s army, popularised sea bathing here. The settlement, originally established in the 13th century as a fishing village, rapidly became the beach destination of the rich and famous, particularly after WWI when it was included in the territory of the Free City of Danzig.

The resort life continues today, with Sopot attracting large numbers of visitors to its long, sandy beach and varied nightlife. Despite being at the centre of the Tri-City, Sopot has managed to maintain an identity separate from its two bigger neighbours. Though pricey in places, it’s a fantastic place for some R&R and a splurge or two.

Some of Sopot Beach - Beaches in Poland

The town has a reputation for it's Bohemian atmosphere, attractingundefined many painters, poets, musicians and actors. It is also a popular holiday destination for many Poles and is known as the party capital of Poland !

Sopot's arty social scene dates back to before the War when the town was a playground for Prussian nobility and aristocrats. It quickly became known as a spa resort. Since that time the casino, racing track and countless bars and discos continue to draw visitors from all age groups.

Monte Cassino Street provides the best selection of bars and cafes in the town with the "Pinochio" restaurant's little courtyard particularly pleasant for a spot of lunch or even a few drinks. "Bar Kinski" (address: ul. Tadeusza Kos´ciuszki 10) is only a short stroll away and certainly worth a visit . You should not be put off by the unimpressive entrance up a pitch-black flight of stairs to the first-floor.

Housed in the building where explosive actor Klaus Kinski was born, it is dark and atmospheric with all sorts of little cubby-holes to enjoy a drink in with friends. There are also various souvenirs and photos from Kinski's impressive acting career. The bar also has a selection of small sun terraces which allow you to sit outside and watch the action on the street below.

Sopot Festival

Sopot offers a rich calendar of artistic and cultural events, which contribute to the specific nature of the town. Undoubtedly, since 1961, the song festival constitutes the biggest the attraction of the town. At the end of August, the whole town is focused on the event. This very popular music festival takes place in the Forest Opera. It is a beautiful amphitheatre with a capacity of 4,500 people, and its location, among forested hills, creates great acoustics. Each year, hundreds of people come to the town to listen to the stars performing on a natural stage in Sopot. During the festival, different types and styles of music are presented. Enthusiasts of theatre and painting may attend events on the Chamber stage of the Wybrzeze Theatre, located in a house near the beach.

Also, the beach alternative theatres present their art. Numerous exhibitions are organized by galleries. People can admire paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photography and many other artistic works. Since 1996, Sopot has been trying to bring back the tradition of jazz festivals from the 1950s, when the town was the cradle of Polish jazz. The festival is one of the oldest song events in Europe. In the unique scenery of the Forest Opera, representatives of various styles and genres of song and pop music come together. Over these thirty-seven years the name of the festival, its formula, and its organizers have changed a number of times.

In the 1960s, and at the beginning of the 70s, the festival was a typical song contest organised by the Ministry of Culture and Art and the Polish Artistic Agency "Pagart". Among its participants were well-known and popular performers like Karel Gott (former Czechoslovakia), Frida Boccara (Monaco), Henri Dés (Switzerland), Isabelle Aubret (France), Salomé (Spain) and many others. In the middle of the 70s, these same organizers, together with the Committee For Radio and Television, organised the Intervision Festival in Sopot, regarded as the most prestigious song and musical event in Eastern Europe. It was there that the stars of the Eastern Block had their success - Helena Vondrackova, Jiži Korn, Frank Schäbel, Alla Pugaczowa, and Maryla Rodowicz. Since 1994, Telewizja Polska S. A has been the sole organiser of the festival. Thanks to the live broadcasts by Channel One of Telewizja Polska S.A. the festival concerts can be watched live by an audience of millions.

In the past few years the following stars performed in Sopot:

o 1964 Nadia Constantinoupoulou, Karel Gott
o 1966 Angela Zilia
o 1969 Karel Gott, Muslim Magomayev
o 1973 Transsylvania Phoenix, Lokomotiv GT, Sofia Rotaru

o 1997 Khadja Nin, Alexia, Secret Garden, Boyz II Men
o 1998 The Corrs, Chris Rea, Tanita Tikaram, Ace of Base, Era
o 1999 Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston

o 2008 Samantha Fox, Sandra, Sabrina Salerno, Thomas Anders of Modern Talking, Kim Wilde, Limahl with Kajagoogoo and Shakin' Stevens,.

Earlier, in the 70s and 80s, the participants and stars performing in the festival included: Charles Aznavour, Shirley Bassey, Boby Solo, The Temptations, Boney M, Johnny Cash, Jose Feliciano, Alison Moyet, Marillion, and Paul Young. Thanks to the International Song Festival, each year the Forest Opera is a major attraction of Sopot in the summer and thanks to the live broadcast, for a few days each year it is the centre of attention throughout Poland. "Sopot Festival" - one of the oldest song contests in Europe, celebrated its 35th jubilee in 1998. For many years now, the unique scenery of the Forest Opera in Sopot has been a background for performances by representatives of various styles and genres of pop music.

The first Sopot festival was initiated and organised in 1961 by Wladyslaw Szpilman from Polish Radio with the help of Szymon Zakrzewski of Polish Artists Management (PAGART). Between 1977 and 1980, it was replaced by the Intervision Song Contest, which was still held in Sopot. Unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, the Sopot International Music Festival often changed its formulas to pick a winner and offered many different contests for its participants. The festival has always been open to non-European acts, and countries like Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mongolia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Peru, South Africa and many others have been represented in this event. The contest lost some of its popularity in Poland and abroad in the 1980s, declining further during the 1990s, and the rather unconvincing organization of TVP made the authorities of Sopot give the organizational responsibilities of the 2005 Sopot International Song Festival to a private TV channel, TVN. From 1999, there was no Grand Prix contest within the festival. TVP chose to invite well-known artists instead, including Whitney Houston and The Corrs. In 2005, TVN was expected to bring the contest back, and in 2006 they invited Elton John. The Sopot International Song Festival is usually considered bigger than the Benidorm International Song Festival or the Karlshamn Baltic Song Festival because of its ability to attract star performers.

Polish Beaches on the Baltic Sea

Sopot Beach in Poland
Polish Coast is about 700km. It starts in Swinoujscie (West) and ends in Krynica Morska (East). There are many places to be visited in a summer time. There wild beaches and crowded beaches where disco music is played all night long. Everyone can find something interesting. In a winter time it is better to visit big cities as Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot or Kolobrzeg, Szczecin.

These places I mentioned are crowded all year long. Gdansk and Sopot are the best in the East Coast if you want to have fun, Sopot is even better. Kolobrzeg (West Coast) is also great. At a German border there 2 towns that are great as well, i.e. Swinoujscie and Miedzyzdroje.

Polish Beaches Picture Slide Show with some great Polish Music to get you in the mood to come visit Poland.

Both are on the islands, i.e. Uznam and Wolin. Wolin is known from old Viking times, on this island there was Viking's port called Jomsborg. Of course you willnot see any Vikings anymore, but you can have fun seeing some rebuilt viking drakkars, some modern Vikings, etc. Middle East Coast. There is a nice town Leba where you can see the biggest dunes in Europe. Pharaoh movie was shot there, so dunes are all right.

So there are plenty of space for tourists. Poland has beautiful beaches with very fine, soft sand. Besides we have ambers. Where else can you find ambers on the beach? Ancient Romans travelled to Poland just to purchase ambers.

Pubs, taverns, discos are across the whole Polish Coast. There are beaches with plenty of tourists and there are almost wild ones. You can eat really fresh fish there. Restaurants purchase them directly from fishermen. You will not regret your holidays on the Polish Coast even if the water is on the cold site there are more than enough attractions to warm you up.

U2 Concert In Poland.

U2 bring their 360° tour, with innovative new stage design affording the audience unobstructed views from every angle, to the Stadion Slaski in Chorzow. The show features material from the band's latest album, No Line On the Horizon.

The band's biggest reinvention coincided with what is arguably one of their best albums, 1991's Achtung Baby. Influenced by electonic dance music, the album took U2's sound to places it had never been before, both sonically and emotionally. The accompanying tour was even more of a departure: Zoo TV featured walls of video screens flashing ironic slogans and pop-culture images, while Bono adopted new personas and played around with the band's established public image.

The subsequent albums, Zooropa and Pop, continued to take U2's music in new directions with techno influences, rhythm sequencing and funky beats. While this may have been artistically rewarding, it didn't cut the mustard with many fans.

All That You Can't Leave Behind released in 2000 and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, from four years later saw a return to the band's straight-ahead, rock roots and were hailed as a return to form, with accompanying multi-platinum sales. The group's latest release finds them tweaking their successful sonic blueprint with the help of co-producers Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno.

Bird Watching Tips for your Holiday in Poland

Read most guides on bird watching and you will be inundated with information on binoculars and photographing. With birding, sketching is a better way to go.

As you immerse yourself in bird watching in Poland, you will slowly but surely improve your observational skills. Different species will start to stand out as you get the hang of viewing bodies, bills, tails and other distinguishing characteristics. Simply viewing them or photographing them, however, only takes you so far. To become a master, you should start sketching your sightings.

Sketching is really one of the pillars of birding. That being said, it has fallen to the side a bit given modern technology and all it offers. Why take the time to sketch when you can use amazingly sophisticated cameras to capture the moment? Many have no answer, and go with cameras. There is nothing wrong with such an approach, but sketching is simply better. You may consider such a statement as a matter of opinion, but it is not.

The act of photographing something is ultimately a point and click situation. I do photographers a disservice with that statement because there is much more to it. It is an art and undeniably so. The art, however, has much more to do with lighting and proper framing than it does the subject itself. Sketching is just the opposite.

Sketching a bird is the single best way to improve your birding skills. Why? Well, think the process through. How do you go about sketching? There are many ways, but all involve one key element - details. To sketch, you must take in the details of your sighting. Lighting and such really does not come into play. Instead, bill curvature, body type, wing shape, feather patters, tail displays and so on are all aspects you must focus on to complete your sketching. Inevitably, this forces you to focus on the finer point of the bird. The more you do this, the better you become at observing and recognizing. It is a simple fact.

So, what if you have never sketched before? As with most birding skills, it does not matter. I am not talking about the quality of your sketches. It is not the final product that matters. Instead, it is the act of focusing on the unique characteristics of your sighting and recognizing them as such. After a surprisingly short while, your sketching will lead you to start distinguishing species with accuracy as well a giving you the ability to note variations.

Sketching may sound like a daunting task at first, but give it a try. You will be surprised at how quickly you pick it up and how fast your observational skills improve.

Bialowieza Primeval Forest Poland Bird Watching

Bialowieza Primeval Forest

It is the last, most natural forest complex of the lowlands in the whole Europe. A pearl among the woodlands of the Old Continent! In central part of the forest has been estabilished the Bialowieski National Park, part of which is under strict preservation. The Park has been declared by UNESCO a World Biosphere Reserve and put on the World Heritage List.

The place is wonderful, thanks to protection for centuries as the best hunting area of Polish kings and Russian tsars. The age of magnificient treestands are over 150-200 years. A lot of trees have really impressive size, shape and age - highest spruces, limes and oaks are over 50m high and oldest oaks are over 400 years. These huge trees and a lot of decaying trunks lying on the ground gives a realistic feeling of ancient, unspoiled nature.

Ecotourism is allowed in the Park only in organised groups, guided only by licensed guides. In the area of strict preservation only one, 4km walking trail is available for visitors. Most of the roads in the forest have limited access for cars. Anyway - except the Park and several small reserves- quite big of the area is open for entry. There are numerous dirt roads and paths.

The most well known attraction of the Park is European Bison, that was reintroduced there in 1929 (last wild European Bisons extincted in Bialowieza in 1919). Other mammals include: Deer, Wolf, Lynx and Beaver. The Park is also a site for numerous research projects conducted by scientists from all over the world.

Biebrza Marshes Bird Watching in Poland

Biebrza Marshes Bird Watching in PolandBiebrza valley is widely known as the largest marshes in Europe. Most of the Biebrza River basin (59 223ha) has been given under the strict protection. The Biebrza National Park established on northern and middle basins is the largest National Park in Poland.

The slowly meandering Biebrza river is one of the very few European rivers, which throughout the passage of time has kept all of its natural quality. It is a really unspoilt wildlife sanctuary and a paradise for both, ornithologists and birds. It has sedge marshes stretching as far as your eye can see giving a stunning views, birch-thickets and alders, acres of reedbeds, wet meadows and peatbogs.

Early spring gives excellent opportunities to watch migratory birds during Biebrza''s flooding season. Every spring (mostly March/Appril or May) the river floods and most of the area seems to be a shallow lake with geese of a thousand flocks, whooper, mute and Bevick''s swans, cranes, widgeons, pintails and many waders and waterfowls can be easily observed while stopping over here. The most well known target rarities of the area are Aquatic Warbler (about 2000 pairs) and Great Snipe (about 450 lekking males). Biebrza is also considered to be one of the best places in Europe for raptors that can be anywhere seen here. Especially eagles: White-tailed, Golden and Greater Spotted Eagle but Booted and Short-toed as well.

Whooper Swans, Biebrza Marshes

The length of the Park is about 100km but public transportation is very bad in whole Biebrza''s valley so it is really hard to move through the valley without a car. Public buses are rare even in the areas of high visitor interest. The more so, car access for birders in the Park is mostly limited to few local roads. There are some hiking trails (usually very muddy, so remember to wear rubber shoes and use repellent against mosquitos), bicycle or kayak trials but expect to walk quite a few kilometers to visit the best spots. Prior to entering the Park, tickets must be bought and groups can enter the Park only guided by licensed guide.

Białowieża Forest Polish National Parks

The entire area of eastern Europe was originally covered by virgin forests similar to the Białowieża Forest. Travel by people was limited to river routes until about the 14th century; roads and bridges appeared much later. Limited hunting rights were granted throughout the forest in the 14th century. In the 15th century the forest became a property of King Władysław II Jagiełło who used the forest as a food reserve for his army marching towards the Battle of Grunwald. A wooden manor in Białowieża became his refuge during a plague pandemic in 1426. The first recorded piece of legislation on the protection of the forest dates to 1538, when a document issued by King Sigismund the Old instituted the death penalty for poaching a wisent (European bison). King Sigismund also built a new wooden hunting manor in Białowieża, which became the namesake for the whole forest.

The forest was declared a hunting reserve in 1541 for the protection of wisent. In 1557, the forest charter was issued, under which a special board was established which examined forest usage. In 1639 King Władysław IV Waza issued the "Białowieża royal forest decree" (Ordynacja Puszczy J.K. Mości leśnictwa Białowieskiego). The document freed all peasants living in the forest in exchange for their service as osocznicy, or royal foresters. They were also freed of taxes in exchange for taking care of the forest. The forest was divided onto 12 triangular areas (straże) with a centre in Białowieża.

The Bison Show Reserve, Białowieża National Park, Poland

Until the reign of Jan Kazimierz the forest was mostly unpopulated. However, in the late 17th century several small villages were established for development of local iron ore deposits and tar production. The villages were populated with settlers from Masovia and Podlachia and many of them still exist.

After the Partitions of Poland, the tsar Paul I turned all the foresters into serfs and handed them over to various Russian aristocrats and generals along with the parts of forest where they lived. Also, a large number of hunters were able to enter the forest, as all protection was abolished. Following this, the number of wisent fell from more than 500 to less than 200 in 15 years. However, in 1801 tsar Alexander I reintroduced the reserve and hired a small number of peasants for protection of the animals, and by the 1830s there were 700 wisent. However, most of the foresters (500 out of 502) took part in the November Uprising of 1830-1831, and their posts were abolished, leading to a breakdown of protection.

Alexander II visited the forest in 1860 and decided that the protection of wisent must be re-established. Following his orders, locals killed all predators: wolves, bears and lynxes. In 1888 the Russian tsars became the owners of all of primeval forest. Once again the forest became a royal hunting reserve. The tsars started sending wisent as gifts to various European capitals, while at the same time populating the forest with deer, elk and other animals imported from all over the empire. The last major tsarist hunt took place in 1912.

During World War I the forest suffered heavy losses. The German army seized the area in August 1915 and started to hunt for the animals. During the more than three years of German occupation, more than 200 kilometres of railway tracks were laid in the forest in order to develop the industry of the area. Three lumber-mills were built, in Hajnówka, Białowieża and Gródek. Up to September 25 1915 at least 200 wisent were killed, and an order was issued forbidding hunting in the reserve. However, German soldiers, poachers and Soviet marauders continued the slaughter until February 1919 when the area was captured by the Polish army. The last wisent had been killed just a month earlier.

After the Polish-Soviet War in 1921 the core of Puszcza Białowieska was declared a National Reserve. In 1923 it was discovered that only 54 wisent survived the war in various zoological gardens all around the world – none of them in Poland. In 1929 a small herd of four wisent was bought by the Polish state from various zoological gardens and from the Western Caucasus (where the wisent was to become extinct just several years afterwards – these animals were of the slightly different Caucasian subspecies). Most of the forest was declared a national park in 1932.

The reintroduction proved successful and in 1939 there were 16 wisent in Białowieża National Park. Two of them were from the zoological garden in Pszczyna and were direct descendants of a pair of wisent from the forest given to Duke of Pszczyna by tsar Alexander II in 1865.

In 1939 the local inhabitants of Polish ethnicity were deported to remote areas of the Soviet Union. They were replaced with Soviet forest workers, but in 1941 the forest was occupied by Germans and the Soviet inhabitants were also deported. Hermann Göring planned to create the biggest hunting reserve in the world there. After July 1941 the forest became a refuge for both Polish and Soviet partisans, and German authorities organized mass executions of people suspected of aiding the resistance. (A few graves of people who were "disappeared" by the Gestapo can still be seen in the forest.) In July 1944 the area was liberated by the Red Army. Withdrawing Wehrmacht troops demolished the historic Białowieża hunting manor.

After the war part of the forest was divided between Poland and the Belarusian SSR of the Soviet Union. The Soviet part was put under public administration while in the Polish part the Białowieża National Park was reopened in 1947.

Belovezhskaya Pushcha was protected under Decision No. 657 of the Council of People's Commissars of the Soviet Union, 9 October 1944; Order No. 2252-P of the USSR Council of Ministers, 9 August 1957; and Decree No.352 of the Byelorussian SSR Council of Ministers, September 16, 1991.

The Reserve was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1992 and internationally recognised as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in 1993 (the Polish part had been so designated in 1976).

A new attraction in the Belarusian part of the Reserve is a New Year museum and the residence of Dzied Maroz or Ded Moroz ("Grandfather Frost", the East Slavic counterpart of Father Christmas). Thousands of tourists visit this museum.

The Belarusian part of the reserve also became the place where the Belavezha Accords were signed by leaders of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus to dissolve the USSR.

Polish Birds In Summer. Be kind to birds on your holidays

Polish Bird Watching holidays

In July and August we usually are on Polish holidays , while birds have their breeding season. If you intend to take a rest outdoors, remember not to make bird breeding difficult and try not to endanger the life of their chicks.

Birds usually build their nests in April and May. Bird nest may be found almost everywhere. However, if birds lose their clutch (e.g. due to bad weather or predation) they may build another nest and begin breeding once again. Some bird species breed two times in a row every year; in favourable circumstances even three times. This is why many bird species breed and look after their chicks in June and July. Sometimes one may come across a nest with chicks even in September.

In order not to disturb birds, as well as other animals, one should avoid thickets and bushes, areas which are seldom visited by people, river banks and lake shores overgrown with bushes and rushes. One should rather follow bitten paths and trails and stop at places where people often stay.

If you notice a nest, do not come close to it and back up carefully. Especially big birds of prey, although they may seem dangerous, they are very skittish and sensitive to the presence of humans in the vicinity of their nests. Moreover, mammal predators (e.g. fox, raccoon-dog, marten) often follow human tracks, which may lead them to nourishing eggs and vulnerable chicks. If you uncover a nest, chicks may be easily noticed by predators, both from the air and from the ground (among them crow, magpie and marsh harrier – specialized in robbing nests). It sometimes happens that a bird, once it has been frighten off from its nest, escapes and never comes back, leaving the eggs or chicks behind. Meanwhile, frightening chicks away from the nest, when they are still too young to hide efficiently, as well as fly and seek food on their own, jeopardizes their lives – they may die of hunger or be eaten by predators.

Polish White-backed Woodpecker

Protection of birds in Poland is guaranteed by the Act on Nature Conservation. According to the article 27b "all native animal species living in the wild and remaining under protection (this refers to all bird species excluding feral pigeon) cannot be frightened off, bothered, photographed, filmed, or observed from the distance, which may disturb animals in the breeding season".

In order to photograph birds in the vicinity of their nests one needs a special permission from the local authorities (voivode). Without such a permission, birds may be photographed only in areas described in the regulations concerning nature protection as "built-up areas and all areas of public use" i.e. by roads, trails and places indicated as road stops or car parks.

Polish Birds in spring - Spring migrations

We usually think: Polish birds leave in autumn, because they are afraid of winter. They fly away from cold and lack of food. But we can look at this phenomenon from a different perspective – birds arrive in spring, to take advantage of free space and abundance of food, to be able to bring up greater number of nestlings.

The majority of birds leave before they run out of food and before it gets really cold, so they never have a chance to find out how winter really looks like. Autumn migration starts just after the young are big enough to manage on their own. They follow their parents once they learn to fly. To conclude, the main reason to migrate is not to avoid winter but to take advantage of spring.

The migration season in Poland starts in February, when birds wintering in Poland set off to their breeding areas in the north; among these birds are snow buntings, whooper swans and long-tailed ducks.

First migrant larks can be observed in Poland as early as the mid February. When the winters are mild, also the more impatient cranes arrive in February. Yet the high migration season begins in March. First to set off are sea ducks, which spend winter in our country.

Simultaneously, long-tailed tits and other tits, that winter in Germany and Holland arrive to Poland. The first swallows may be observed as early as 14th March. Throughout March and April almost all birds which nest in Poland arrive here. The last to come are river warblers, common rosefinches, golden orioles and swifts. They arrive in May.

Within five months, from February to June, almost 200 species of birds come to Poland to breed and they leave after the breeding season in over. There are just some twenty species of strictly resident birds – they nest in Poland and stay here afterwards.

In spring birds travel much faster then in autumn. For example marsh warbler (smaller than a sparrow, dweller of dense thickets) travels in autumn for 6-7 months (i.e. 26-30 weeks), it stops for winter for 8-10 weeks, and again in spring migrates for 9-10 weeks.

In most cases spring migrations are a kind for race - males race against one another to be first in the best locality. Those, which arrive first can choose the best place to build a nest and the area abundant in food. Moreover, when a male arrives to its destination after a long flight it has to be strong enough to fulfill a breeding season demands. It has to protect its territory from other birds and be attractive enough to attract a female. Meanwhile, a female short after the journey has to lay eggs, rich in fat and proteins. Thus birds which arrive at their hatching habitats in poor condition have little chance for healthy offspring if any.

Short History of Poland

Poland is a country located in central Europe. It is situated between Germany, which lies to its west, and Ukraine, Belarus lie towards east. Towards south of Poland is Czech Republic and Slovakia. Lithuania and Russia of erstwhile USSR and Baltic Sea are to the north Poland. Poland has been a member of European Union since 01 May 2004. Most Polish companies have come under the central authority of European Union since then. Old currency of Poland no longer exists and there have been several reforms in trade and commerce.

Poland has a very interesting and turbulent history and is called Polska or Rzeczpospolita Polska in its native language. It all started 1000 years ago, when Piast dynasty took over and reformed Poland. The country witnessed a golden age under the leadership and command of Jagiellonian dynasty by the end of the sixteenth century. This dynasty took Poland to great heights and at one time became the wealthiest and most powerful regions in Europe. On May 3, 1791, the Sejm of Polish and Lithuanian commonwealth adopted the constitution of Poland, making Poland the only country in the entire world to adopt democratic governance apart from United States. Poland thus became the second country in the world to have adopted a constitution along with US.

The perils of World War II had completely demolished Poland had left the Polish absolutely penniless. Until 1989, communist parties from Russia ruled Poland. Poland then had to face a new crisis of Communism. After the cold war, Poland gained partial independence in 1989. It then reverted back to its democratic rule. Today Poland is a far better country then what it used to be after the country lost to German forces during World War II.

With free trade and booming economy under the European Union, Poland has reformed in leaps and bounds. Today's Poland is indeed a new country marching on the route of economic and political freedom.

Olsztyn Castle Poland

Olsztyn Castle Poland
The Olsztyn Castle was the most important and solid one among fortresses in Warmia Province. The construction of the castle on the bank of the Łyna River began in 1346, seven years before Olsztyn was granted civic rights.
As the castle was designed as the Warmia Chapter bishops’ seat, it was inhabited by chapters’ administrators. One of them, Nicolaus Copernicus, stayed and worked there between 1516 and 1521.

This Gothic construction was set on a quadrangle plan...
After the first partition of Poland in 1772, Prussian administration offices were located in the castle. In 1779-1977, its north wing was used by an Evangelic Community. The castle was considerably damaged in two fires, the first one in 1821, and the second in 1827. During the following years, the restauration and renovation works were carried out: 1837-1839 – the east wing and the chapel in the south wing, 1865 – the south wing, 1871 – the north wing. In the 19th century, Prussian authorities ordered demolition of the fortifications.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle was adopted for a seat of the Prussian administration and housed a regional museum.

Since 1945 the castle has been the main seat of the Warmia and Mazury Museum. It stages exhibitions of history and art and also gives access to the chapel and the watchtower to the visitors to the castle.

Car Rental in Poland

The large, Eastern European country of Poland is characterised by its enchanting towns and cities, wild and unspoilt countryside and its turbulent past.

Poland's capital - Warsaw, was once one of Eastern Europe's most striking and sophisticated cities, World War II however, left the city in nothing more than rubble and ruins. Since then the city has undergone major regeneration, with much of its Old Town district being rebuilt to its 17th and 18th century form.

Albeit, Warsaw does not offer the archetypal beauty of other European countries, the sheer determination of its people and the traces of it's magnificent past scattered throughout the city however, has given Warsaw its unique lure.

The historic port town of Gdañsk is situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea and its location has made it one of the most important port cities in Northern Europe. Similar to Warsaw, Gdañsk has also suffered a violent past but it has been meticulously rebuilt over the years.

The city is now one of Poland's most beautiful, with its magnificent buildings, renaissance style monuments and a seafront lined with cosmopolitan restaurants, bars and cafes.

Poland's most charismatic and striking city is Krakow, which, situated in the southern region of the country managed to escape much of the destruction of World War II. This has resulted in a charming city, retaining much of its historic glory.

With over 125,000 miles of road spanning the country, hiring your own vehicle is an excellent way to discover many of the hidden gems scattered throughout the beautifully diverse landscape.

Admittedly, much of Poland's roads are poorly maintained and can present quite the challenge for the more conventional driver. For this reason it's recommended that you opt for a 4x4, which should make the ride a lot more comfortable.

Also, opting to hire from one of the major rental agencies will mean you can take advantage of one-way pick up deals, where you pickup your vehicle in one city and drop it off in another. The wealth of countryside to explore coupled with the cheap petrol prices makes Poland an excellent country to do take advantage of such deals.

Car hire pickups are available at the country's two major airports, and within many of its larger towns and cities. Organising car hire before you set off is always the best way to ensure you will get a cheap car hire deal.

Save money on your Car Rental in Poland

Visiting Poland top tip on how to save money on your Car Rental in Poland

Top Tip to saving money on your car hire. Need inside information on where to find the great deals. Whilst the big boys might be great at getting there website to the first place in the search engines like google car rental Poland (Over 1,000,000 last time I checked) they are not so great on getting the best deal for you.

You probably have traveled a lot and you know that local knowledge inside knowledge is the key to saving money it is the same in every industry. If you don’t know where to find an Cosmetic Export manufacturer in Poland then you might go to a consulting company who will find what your looking for but at what price. If you are planning on using one of the bigger companies like Avis, Hertz, Europcar etc then best is to go direct to them rather than a middle man or middle man site like those you find in google results for "Car hire Poland" If you are feeling a little more adventure and are looking for a cheap car rental solution then this is how to do it.

You need to search local that is where all the local care hire companies are hanging out. Most have .pl or com.pl domain names and mostly show up in the Polish search engines. Most of them also have now added translation of there pages and if not just go to translate.google.com and you can get it translated. Once you have located a few Car rental firms contact them and don’t be afraid to negociate. If they have spare cars they probably are going to accept an offer. How do I know this? I did it. After searching Car rental in Poland and Car hire in Poland and then Car Hire Warsaw Poland on the English Search engines the best price I could get for the type of car I was looking for was 40 Euro. After switching tactics a quick trip to translate.google.com to get the Polish word for car hire "wypozyczalnia+samochodo" and digging deep into the pages ( most smaller car hire companies are not great at getting on the first page of the search engines but have great deals ) came up with a couple of sites offering good prices and then phoned a few, most of them had someone who could speak English, negociated a little and bagged a great bargin for just 40 PLN.
